Offline Achievements

You should be using a LIVE enabled profile to gain achievements, however you don't need to be connected to LIVE (or in an online state) to gain the achievements as long as you are "Signed in (offline)".  If you created and play with an 'Offline Profile' you can play the game, but you will not gain achievements.

Make sure you have or create a LIVE enabled profile by following the steps in this link: http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/403.aspx

If you have an active connection to the internet when you sign in to your profile you will normally be in an 'Online' state.  This means that you can chat with friends, play games, etc.  However if you do not have a current internet connection and cannot connot connect to the LIVE service your account will be signed in but only on your local machine (Signed in 'offline').  This allows you to still play your games and gain achievements until you are able to connect to the LIVE service again.  By bringing up the Guide in this state you should see an option to 'Connect to LIVE', clicking that will attempt to connect to LIVE and be in an 'Online' state.  The achievements that you've earned in Fallout 3 while you were offline will then get recorded on the servers.

Just make sure that before you load a saved game or continue your progress in a Games fow Windows - LIVE game that you have signed into your account.  You should get the achievements then.

(Thanks Wedge)

Marketplace Crashing on Launch
If you are experiencing the following symptoms:

   1. You're seeing a crash at startup with no explanation
   2. You don't see the issue with a new or different Windows User Account
   3. You've changed the Videos directory for Games for Windows

Then you can use the following resolution:

1. Using notepad, save the contents below to your desktop as VideoPath.Reg.
      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\XLive]
      "VideoBasePath"="%USERPROFILE%\\Videos\\Games for Windows - LIVE"
2. Double-click on VideoPath.reg.  Confirm that yes, you want to import it when prompted.
3. Try starting and signing-in to the client.
4. On the settings tab, change your videos location to a subdirectory of the root drive you’ve chosen for videos.

I purchased a game through Steam, how do I find my LIVE Key?

In many instances Steam will actually display the key when you launch the game, however if you have told it not to display that key or it just doesn't, then you should be able to right click on the game in the My Games tab, and choose the option to show the CD key.

How do I "recover" my gamertag?

Sometimes in cases where you have an issue logging in and it is not related to connectivity, you will need to go through the process to "recover" your gamertag.  Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Launch the game.
  2. Press the Home key.
  3. If you're set to automatically sign in, then you will need to sign out, then click Delete Profile.
  4. Choose the profile to delete and do so.
  5. When back at the main menu in LIVE, click on the option to use an existing account, and enter the email and password for your gamertag.  The system will then recover your gamertag.

Phone Support
Finally, if none of the above steps have helped you resolve your issue, and you are sure the issues is with LIVE and not covered on the forums, you can use the following steps to contact LIVE support via phone in North America only:

Please dial 1-877-274-4349 from 9 am EST (6 am PST) to 1 am EST (10 pm PST).  Our technical support agents there will be more than happy to assist you.

It's highly likely that this may be due to this being D-Day for the upgrade.  I would just be patient about it for now, at least give it a few hours for everything to sync up.

We had this issue with one of our dedicated servers that uses a LIVE id, we got around it by signing in via a 360.  But if I try to go to the account on the web I still get a 'Page Unavailable' so I don't think it's a D-Day type deal.

I have two questions:

1) I recevied an error that my region is not supported by LIVE. Due to this issue I had to create an alternate account and gametag (for no other reasons) with US as my region and it worked. When Slovakia will be a supported by live?

2) Now that I am using a new gametag, will it be possible to transfer the achievements from one tag to another once I can log in to live with my original account with Slovakia as my region? I don't want to go over the games again to get those achievements

Hi, I am from Turkey and LIVE is not available in Turkey. I have Fallout 3 and GTA IV - PC. My question is; I made an account choosing my country to UK. If I add these games to UK account now, will there be a problem? And later when LIVE service comes to Turkey can I add (move) these games to my Turkey account (We can`t change our country I think and need to create a new account)? If no, is there a support for moving games to another account? Thanks for answers. And please Microsoft get the LIVE service to all around the world. We want to play multiplayer.

And finally LIVE service will come to Turkey soon right? :) Thanks for answers.

Hello, I'm having a problem with my 'Gears of War', 'Fallout 3' & 'GTA 4' achievements in LIVE... they never appear!
And I have no clue why. I'm a PC user in Belgium, and never have a problem connecting to LIVE (offline or online). When connected, LIVE recognizes that I have these three games. But it never shows the achievements. Even though I've finished 'Gears of War', completed nearly all achievements/missions in 'Fallout 3' and already played the first few missions in 'GTA 4'. But all I see in LIVE is 0 achievements on any of these games.

Does anyone have an idea what I'm forgetting or doing wrong? Thanks for your time!
