Ok my problem in a nutshell:

1) Started GFWL

2) Purchased the 1000 points ( no options for 800 points...but was expecting to be ripped off... )

3) Fallout 3 DLC started downloading

4) Fallout 3 DLC stopped downloading at 30%

5) Closed GFWL

6) Tried to open GFWL again...not working...

7) Started Pc again, same problem, stuck on the blue Games for Windows live picture, no email-loging in anymore...

8) Deïnstalled, reïnstalled GFWL....same problem...

9) Made a different user in Windows Vista 32 bit, there I can log into GFWL, but it says nothing downloading in the media tab, altho it confirmed it was downloading...

So after having alot of problems with GFWL when I purchased GTA4 pc, now the same thing with Fallout 3....you can imagine i'm starting to get a little fed up by now about GFWL...

I mean, why can't it be like steam ? click , purchase, download, installed, no more patching every, everything done automatically...

Oh yeah, all ports are open, etc, etc...firewall is not blocking....it worked fine before i closed it while downloading the DLC...any help would be appreciated...

Dude chill.  This place has good support and a great program.  Right now they are fixing the problems with the Fallout 3 DLC as we speak.

Can't wait for Final Fantasy XIII!

If you had read the first post you would have seen it's a problem with GFWL not starting up anymore.

The fact that the only way to contact the GFWL staff is to either call an American number ( guess how much that's gonna cost as an European ) or use this forum, where after a whole day there isn't one staff member who bothers to answer, or a "we're looking into it", or " can you give us this or that information "

The fact that all the games under windows associated with GFWL run into a tremdous ammount of problems,

The fact that GFWL is so buggy, closing the program, and I still sits remains in the processes, altho you can't open it anymore without restarting your comp for example. Numerous crashes / not logging on automaticaly in some games, wich lets the logging on go in circles, without any chance of aborting, thus meaning alt-F4 or CTRL-ALT-DEL....fun

The fact that you have to open port x, y, z, do this and that, to make this piece of crap software work on a pc, where there are other products in the market who do it 1000 times better ( steam, d2d ), and work from day 1, without 100 tweaks...fun

The fact that you have to purchase 1000 points for an 800 points game, meaning I spend 12 Euro on a expansion that's advertised as 10 dollars ( you check the currency excange... ).

The fact that it lets me purchase a game, stops downloading after 30% and then doesn't work at all even after numerous reinstalles, and houres spend searching on the web for a solution..was....the drop that spilled the cup, the grain of sand that marked the hour, the hole that made the cheese, the dog that made the chop suey....well you get it....please allow me to be pissed off...

Yeah I guessed I'll be pissed also but I haven't had a major problem with Games for Windows LIVE and i've been using it for over a year now.

Third day, still no answer \o/

I'm starting to love this logo ( that's the only thing that shows up anymore anyway, no login or anything, just a pretty logo )

You must have corrupted temp data staying behind when you reinstall. If I were you I'd go in the program folders and delete everything so you can do a totally clean install. And make sure you have "see hidden files" on.

In windows XP go to C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Xlive\ and delete the whole XLive folder.

On Vista it's C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\

Then after that delete everything in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE\

I think that's pretty much all the folders used by GFWL. Give it a try and hopefully you'll be able to get a clean install on your main account and restart the download.

I already tried cleaning up everything left behind by GFWL, and then do a clean install, except for the XLive folder.

Now I deleted it, cleaned the GWFL directory in Program Files, even tried deleting the whole directory, still nothing....

But yeah I also think there must be some corrupted temp file staying behind, because the thing starts up when logged in with another user ( altho there it refuses to download anything  )

So for the moment it's still the blue logo for me ( Microsoft and their love for blue (screens))   ;-)

Thank you for taking the time to reply tho.

Hi Xurxie,

Sorry to hear about your issues. Can you please clarify if you are using the latest client, and that the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed? Also, as a precaution, disable any background program (antivirus, xfire, Hamachi) that you might have running. Thanks.

I'm using the latest client, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed. Like I said, it worked "fine" before the purchase and the attempt to download.

I already tried disabeling all the baground programs, antivirus, Hamachi, Firewall, etc... but that didn't work either.

try uninstalling it with   "revo uninstaller" set to advanced, it will clean all related files from your system, AND any registry entries, then try again.

tried it twice. didn't work. still can't access the GFWL netowork. I can play the dawn of wa II beta, but alot of the time, People drop out of games. I'm not sure if that is a software issue or a live issue. I have only been able to play 2 games so far in the beta. If anyone has a solution plz post it. Oh, btw, I downloaded the DOW II Beta off of steam. Like I said, GFWL at first couldn't install due to some security Hex error, and after reinstall GFWL won't go past the splash screen. Aparrently can't detect internet.

One more thing. w/ windows.net framwork. should I remove 2.0 and 3.0 and just have 3.5 installed? Or should they all show up in the add/remove programs window?

Ideally you should only have the one, the old ones should be uninstalled and only the new one present.
