It's not like this is the first problem since release. This is the final straw for a lot of people. I'm one of the guys that had to build a new rig to get this game running and also had to wait a long time for patches etc to get the game playable.

This is the first time a Live update has effected any game. So the problems you are having with GTA are RS fault. This how ever is a blunder by both teams. All MS is going to do is try to troubleshoot what is going on with the SP.  It will be up to RS when a game update will come.

You cannot compare this game to other GTA's. The Fact is that RS is having a hard time with this game on all platforms.  The optimization of the code is not there. Every GTA that has come out has been buggy. RS is not good at building MP games. The track record last year has proven this. The reason I can tell is that they have been patching things in the SP that should of been in the game at the time of it going gold.

Choppazilla:

yup, 3 days later nothing...i dont understand this method of operating...guess it would need 30 min to roll back that fkin update...then you have enough time for testing fixing your new version...nothing more to say

You are exagerating. It has been 2 days since the update. Tomorrow 2 A.M. PST, will be 3 days. There will be no rollback cause this is not a MMO.

Same here - GTA was running so well on my PC I was really pleased with it. I had promt to install update and now completely fucked up! stutters every few seconds like if I was playing on line with serious LAG!

Anyone heard from anything from GFWL?

Is anything being done to repair this ridiculous release?

Are you sure about that? I remember many complaints (which kinda annoyed me, because here, the game ran well) from ppl with good machines that the game had weird problems noone could really explain.

now the difference is, that the problem emerged directly after the update so that the source was quite clear. not that i know anything about that, this was just an idea.. since i never thought that this program (gfwl) has such a great influence until yesterday. ;)

I'll post here again to remind people that you ARE still bound by the terms of use, you're still expected to behave in an adult manner while posting on the forums.  We are working on it, a fix is on the way.  We do in fact do testing, which does in fact take time.  It wouldn't serve anyone well if we were to find the problem, "fix it" and then immediately push out that fix without ensuring that the fix doesn't cause any other problems.  The people insisting we should test but also insisting we should fix the problem the second it occurs seem to be a bit disconnected from reality.

The development team has been working on this issue since it was first discovered, most of them pulling exceedingly long shifts to identify and work towards a resolution on this issue.  I think people may be a bit misguided if they think that when a bug like this happens it's just business as usual or that we're all hanging out bowling in the hall and drinking margaritas or something.  Issues like this are a big deal, and the work to get them fixed in a timely manner involves many people working very hard.

So why didn't you guys test the new update before it was realesed? That way things like this had not happened from the beginning?  Confused

I gave up waiting today, so I removed the latest GFWL and reinstalled a older one. I can't log in to GFWL but atleast GTA is playable. Cool

Cheers!

Just a question: which gfwl version was before this new one? Tongue Tied

I might remove this one and install the old one.

I am running 2.0.675.0.

Luckely, I had that one as installfile on the computer. Smile

In the mean time, this is what I did, copied from GTAforum. It works fine and you are not prompted to update continually, just signed in offline.

"Hey guys,

I was having the same stuttering problem after updating Games for Windows - Live

angry.gif

. I registered on the forum to let you guys know that you can fix it, if you don't mind staying offline.

I'm using windows XP, but hopefully Vista users can do something similar.

Simply uninstall "Microsoft Games for Windows - Live" and "Microsoft Games for Windows - Live Redistributable" using the Add or Remove Programs utility.
Then download and install the older version here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...89-181edc57c0e0

Your game should now run as smooth as before

. But remember to decline the update request, this will however force you to play offline.

Cheers,

-Sniperchang"

Why not just roll back to the previous update? Seems logical to me. Then theres no reason to pull "exceedingly long shifts" to get the problem fixed. If the update is recalled then you can all go back to your leisurely pace while all of us go back to enjoying our game.

It's obvious to me that this update was not tested on all titles as GTA is not the only game with problems, if they were tested then obviously not extensivly enough.

If you are strapped for time then I think the person responsible for setting these deadlines needs to rethink how he runs things.

PS: I'm also a programmer and I'm currently completing a bachelor of computer science degree and a digital media creation degree so I know how tough debugging can be. As far as I'm concerned it's not a problem with the developer team but the way in which these updates are rushed out to us in the state they are.

hey thank you super87nz, I fix my ram as stock. I watched some vdo in utube - it s much smoother than me (Q9550@3.6 + 4870x2 + cat9.2)
I've just tried 9.2. For me, its worse than 9.4 :( Any suggestion pal??

Hmmmmm.. I Guess only thing left is to run a 3Dmark and find someone with an exact setup and better score then get in contact with them and find out what they are doing right.

IMO bio's settings should never be overlooked, simply changing to Optimized Defaults can make a lot of difference in a benchmark.

I'd stick with Vista SP1 and start Tweaking-Benchmarking.. I'ts all trial and error mate. try putting a post on pcmech.com.

Also don't forget they could be using different video driver settings like forcing AA off etc.

Considering the only reason you are on this forum is to complain about one update in 3 years that has effected game play in SP. I think your opinions are bias towards what you think is going on.  You don't have any facts to support any of your posts. How do you know it wasn't tested? You don't, you assume because of one bug in three years that this is the norm. Well its not, RS has had its own problems with this game, that has in the past absolutely nothing to do with the live team.

It is not logical to roll back months of work. Especially since none of us have any idea to how much money has been spent upgrading the service. Just know it is not going to happen. One game out of the 14 or so GFWL games does not constitute a going in reverse approach. It will be patched out by RS not the Live team.

Just because you are currently studying CS does not correlate to having experience in the work field or having a understanding to how things work inside big corporations. Also there is a work around if all you care about is playing SP.
