MDA400, I think you are jumping the gun here. Before you suspect your router, I would directly plug the PC into the internet modem. If LIVE works when it is directly plugged in, then it could be the router is incompatible with UPNP protocol. Then use the port fowarding or DMZ/ software firewall combination.
Have you updated the firmware on the router? Try disabling UPNP & using port fowarding.
All is working 100% and thank you for your responses and suggestions =).
I think it is important to mention along with the ports that need forwarding to remember to enable:
NAT
MTU (1500)
UPnP
If ports are going to be opened, then you are in your router anyway and why not? Check and make sure.
Most new routers come configured this way these days because of the way internet usage has gone, live console gaming, PC gaming etc.
Thanks MOD
Just bumping this to make sure new users of BioShock 2 can see it.

As Microsoft are doing a 120 day trial of Windows Home Server, I built my own Home Server and I had my Home Server connected to my network at home and I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with Games for Windows LIVE. I think if you changed your router for one that is verified as compatible with Vista then you wouldn't have this problem. My Home Server worked with no port forwarding whatsoever and so does Games for Windows LIVE. I just have UPnP enabled and NAT set to open. Unfortunately I have had to take my server offline now but in the 3 months I was using Windows Home Server I had no port conflicts at all. Most of the problems that occur on LIVE are down to user error.
The issue that I was referring to was the remote access for WHS and port forwarding required for GfWL, Although it was not a big issue for me since I could just VPN in to my network for local access, it was the fact that GfWL required ports that other services also required.
My issue with not being able to get GfWL working fixed it self with the install of Windows 7, but even on a clean copy of Windows Vista I can not get it to work. While you may have been able to get yours working that does not mean that everyone else on having issues on this forum is by their own fault.

This is not an issue. Ports do not work this way. Technically, a port is a virtual address that programs can use to access networks. So it matters not if more than one program is using a particular port. What can matter is if a security program is blocking that port address.
i play Bioshock 2 , which i got the day its release and i have the same problem as everyone else, but i have disabled my anti virus and spyware and exited basically everything else, also sometimes i can sign in one day then not the next, so i was wondering what could be happening?
Hi,
I can't play Street Fighter 4 anymore, i was able to yesterday, but now seems that every atempt to create a session failed, but i'm able to connect to GFWL.
Can you fix it please.
regards.
