This link does not work : the downloaded file (WindowsXP-KB938759-x86-FRA.exe) is corrupted.
How can we make this work on Windows XP ?
Try downloading it again, something that occured during the download could have caused the corruption, but the file itself should be fine.
I tried to download it many times (12 to be exact, from 2 different systems and from 2 different network connexions).
I always get a message "file is corrupted" after the initial exe unpacking.
My file is 831 044 bytes.
I also get a 'file is corrupted" message when I try to unpack the file with a third party .cab unpacker => the file is corrupted.
I tried downloading the english version, the initial exe unpacking works fine and my .cab unpacker manages to access the contained files => file is not corrupted (but of course I get the "Setup cannot update your Windows XP files because the language installed on your system is different from the update language", so I cannot actually apply this patch).
So that issue does not seem to be linked to my system or connection. I guess the actual file is corrupted in your repository.
I googled the KB number and found on several forums that i am not the only one experiencing this issue with the French version, and it seems that the Italian and Finnish versions have the same problem from what I read.
Could you please check that the file is fully working, or provide an alternate download location if it is a download process issue ?
Alright, I spent some time this afternoon verifying that the file is functional, and yes it seems to operate just fine.
Ok, thanks for the time you spent checking.
I tried again and I finally managed to download a working copy of the file from a 3rd computer connected to a 3rd network connection.
As the problem occurs every time I try on some network connections and never on some others, I think I have an idea : I suppose that you use a kind of CDN (content deployment network) to provide the files to download, it could be because one of the local node used to replicate the files contains a corrupted copy for one reason or another (had that idea because the 3rd computer I tried uses a completely different IP address range)...
I thought about this because this is the first time I have download issues with anything in years on the two computers I tested first, and every other website still works fine.
Now I am experiencing the same issue when downloading the DLC I bought using GFWL (Fallout 3 Broken Steel. Downloads fine, but won't install as file seems corrupted : fails signature check even with the hotfix now installed).
Right now I am trying to download it again, but If I am right about CDN, the same problem will occur.
Is there a way to download the file using the computer that was able to do so, and then transfer it to this one (I cannot move my computer to the other connection) ?
Where does the games for windows live client save the files it downloads ?
Please ignore the last question : I found the path to downloaded data.
c:\Document and Settings\(my account)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\GFWLive\Downloads\
I will try on Monday to download it from the computer that could access the hotfix, and then transfer it on this one to try and install it.
I will tell you if this works fine then.
I finally managed to download and install the file at the 4th try, nothing changed in my system config or connection, but everything worked fine this time.
The case is closed, now I am thinking that Games for Windows Live seems to be a big pile of bugs...
Anyway, thanks for your help, hope the program gets better.
Are there any other languages? Can you share your source of info please? I am searching for the Turkish patch version.
It is very good, but I need a Hungarian version.
Please, help me!
I am having the same problem as of today. I am trying to install on Vista SP1 on a Dell M1330. I've downloaded the file multiple times, on different browsers.
msrn33: What or where is port 3074? Some us are not techies. All I know, I bought the download for Pitt, I get the calculating error. I called x-box, they said call bethesda, they couldn't figrure. Now, I"m reading about this port thing. Can some explain it in "people" terms. As of right now, I'm frustrated that I paid for something that isn't working.

- TCP 80- UDP 88- TCP 3074- UDP 3074- TCP 53- UDP 53- TCP 443 If you require assistance opening them, please follow this link:Please note: some games may require additional ports. Please view the following article for details on opening these ports:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937424
Temporarily dissable your firewall and your antivirus. Working?
The above ports need opening or as some like to say, "forwarded"
Go to www.portforward.com download the app and run it and see. also do a search on internet connectivity and run the test. They should all pass with the exception of the last one which doesn't necessarily have to succeed.
Your router may be the culprit for opening the ports and also depending on the game, more ports may need "forwarding"
I am having the issue and have the same question.
LIVE works in-game, but since I own a Brazilian Portuguese Windows XP I cannot run the external LIVE client.
Is there a hotfix for Brazilian Portuguese?

Thank for the response "InGlocksWeTrust", but that isn't the correct file.
As I mentioned before, the hotfix required is for a Brazilian Portuguese OS. The one quoted above works exclusively on OS that are based on Portuguese from Portugal. Think of it as the difference between British English and American English.
As an example, their hotfix ends in "PTG". Every Brazilian hotfix ends in "PTB". And I did try installing the PTG hotfix, but it did not work.
Still, I've had no luck fixing this issue and would appreciate any help.

Check the technical support thread for non supported countries and see if there is any help from other users there that may have had the same problem as you and see if there is a solution. But as of now, unfortunately, there is no patch for Brazil.
