Since lately some of the newer Games For Windows games are being put on Steam, I am asking, begging, for Gears of War PC to be put on Steam. Reasons? There is no way in heck you can find a copy in any store, and the Gamestop Direct Download Service is utterly worthless.
I made the mistake of buying from them once (GoW-PC), and never again. I cannot get the game to work, and I would rebuy it if it was put on Steam.

Just wondering, how is the Gears 1 PC Gamestop version crap? My disc broke and I didn't knew Gamestop had a downloadable copy of the game.

a friend of mine bought the game on amazon.com from germany and she received it within a week.
The OP is very right. I had to pay almost original price for this game just to get a retail copy. What about buying it through the MS store, amazon, or other online retailers? The truth of it of it is, the Live team cannot do anything to get the games on steam. It is up to steam & the developer of the game. Before the game can be put up on steam.
Edit: I am amazed that even the new MS store does not have it for sale.

Well I unno, you bought a digital download copy already you say? But cant get the game to work? Did you get an activation code as well?
I would go about this in two ways.
One, i would contact gamestop. Perhaps they could either sort out your digital downloaded copy or they could send you a physical copy. I mean it is Gamestop, they do have these games somewhere.
The other thing you COULD do, again, presuming you have the activation code, is go and download Gears of War through "other" means and activate it with your CD Key.
And well... I unno... as far as hard copies go, i still see them every now and then in local gamestops or best buys.
I live in the North Eastern America though so I unno.

OH!!! And Make sure you downloaded the 1.3 patch from the Gears of War website that fixes a certificate issue which enables the game to launch after January 28th, 2009. That could be related to your issues (although no specified by you) for being unable to start up the game.

Ive got the patch for GoW and everything else in the description for a vid I did over a year ago, ive got nearly 28,000 hits but every little helps

The game gives me an error saying, "You cannot run the game with a modified executable code. Please reinstall the game. I got this after validating with, I think it was called TryMedia, which is the name of Gamestop's direct download software. Although Gamestop owns it, they do not actually run it, as it says they are just a "partner" of Gamestop.
You think the patch might fix that? I will give it a try.
On another note, the GS-DD times are horrendously slow, you could download 10 full Steam games or more in the time it took me to download GoW from GS-DD service.
I would like to say thanks for all the responses, that Patch#3 worked. Got the game running again.
Would still love to see this go to Steam anyhow, it would be the only way I could convince a work buddy to get it.
Also, on a side note, I dont know about hard copies, but when buying through GS-DD service, you only get 3 activations. Used 2, so I guess I got 1 left. Sucks as much as Spore. Don't now if its a Gamespy Direct Download service thing or a GoW thing, but just thought I would mention it.

I don't think GOW retail copies have 3 activations they just have normal copy protections.

I don't understand what is the point of having install limit. They only cause more problem for legal buyers than for illegal buyers.
