Hi. I am an avid PC and Xbox 360 gamer. This recent rebranding of GFW is a joke. I am trying the new client.. it stinks. It is a PC marketplace. No friends, achievements, etc. You are looking for the perfect client right? You already have it. Windows Live Messenger! Everything done on the console and pc are dictated by a windows live ID. Just use messenger. No more standalone clients. Make Windows Live Messenger the bridge that bridges the gap. I would love to be able to use Windows Live messenger on the pc to communicate with my friends in game. More programs and clients are not the answer. Whether it be XP, Vista, or Windows Seven, make it built into the operating system. Simplify my gaming lifestyle. Please do not complicate it. I am very computer oriented and I work on them for a living, but all these unnecessary changes keep me confused. Imagine the average person. I want a unified experience, not a divide complicated one.
I was expecting the in-game GFWL blade as the desktop client that would slide down from the screen when you press the home button.
I dont want it integrated into messenger, I want it new and improved instead of a messenger addon.
Give it a time. It will grow. Trees does not grow in one day. So you have to wait. Stop being impatient.

I like "Rome wasnt built in a day" better.

I think people have to understand that alot of us have been waiting for this app for a very long time, since it was first spoken about, so every update that comes out, we think "This is the one!!!"
I forgot about that. :P. Even tree is a good example.

I guess you have to wait even more when Arcade arrives :P
I remember one online distribution service hitting the market running . . . that of course is Steam with the launch of Half-Life 2. Games for Windows LIVE, nothing but console ports with no online distribution. I think we've been waiting long enough. Ever since the Xbox came out Microsoft seems to brush off PC gaming, and that is the fact.
There's a perfect system with Steam, I think it would make better business sense and an improved customer experience if Microsoft just threw in the towel and helped Valve improve their system.

Even Steam was not prefect when it launced. Many whined then and many are whining now. History is just repeating so wait for a while GFWL will be a beautiful once all the problems is solved. Iam sure Microsoft will eventually bring more PC games.
I'm sorry, did you say steam was a "smooth" release? As far as I can recall it was terrible when It came out. I remember not being able to play Counter Strike for weeks because the client was struggling to cope with the demand, and obviously games required the steam application to be running. Which many people at the time thought was lunacy. Fast forward a few years and PC gamers are obviously looking into the past with rose tinted glasses at steam's release, constantly heckling GFW's attempts to bring something similar to the table :)
@I-M3THOD-I:
I understand your concern, but at the same time let us not forget that the Games for Windows initiative has indeed been a boon for PC gaming. Now even console-monger publishers like Square Enix and Capcom have realized the sheer scope of the PC as a gaming platform. Think about it, if it wasn't for MS and GFW, would you be even able to dream of Street Fighter 4 on the PC?
And as far as online distribution is concerned, competition is always a good thing. More choice for users that way. And I really don't think you can compare Steam to GFW Live, since Steam specializes in digital distribution. GFW on the other hand, is a brand as well as gaming platform that utilizes digital distribution through LIVE Marketplace (which of course, has recently seen the light of day).
If we all give it time, I am sure LIVE and GFW in general will rival, if not exceed, Steam or any other gaming/distribution platform in the market.
Of course Steam looks great compared to GFWL. Its been out 6 or so years? The biggest selling point for me is the LIVE arcade we will have and still being able to chat with my 360 friends.
Hahaha now that is funny. Glad to see Gabe Newell is now posting here.
