to quote myself from THIS thread I started on this game:

ME:

Okay all, the NDA has been lifted from us Beta testers with limitations, so I'm giving you all the information I'm allowed at this point, and let me tell you I will be getting this game.

Shattered Horizon™ – First In-Game Footage of Zero Gravity Shooter Revealed

Futuremark® Games Studio releases new trailer, screenshots, website, and more

Helsinki, Finland – October 19th, 2009 - Futuremark® Games Studio today released a new trailer showing the first in-game footage from Shattered Horizon™, their upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter for the PC. www.shatteredhorizon.com .

In Shattered Horizon, a catastrophic explosion on the Moon has filled near-Earth space with billions of tons of rocky debris. Survivors on the Moon are forced into conflict with those trapped on the battered International Space Station. Teams of players fight in zero gravity to control the limited supplies that mean the difference between survival and death in the cold of space.

With simple and intuitive controls, players have complete freedom of movement making full use of the distinctive zero gravity environments to control the battle. Shattered Horizon rewards players with gameplay and tactics impossible in games constrained by gravity.

"Raid on Moondust" trailer

The first trailer for Shattered Horizon to show in-game footage, this new video shows two players working together to take control of an asteroid being mined in near-Earth space. Players use rocket packs to fly freely through space and can land on any surface, surprising opponents by attacking from unexpected angles.

"This new trailer shows Shattered Horizon's realistic space setting and the player's complete freedom of movement," said Antti Summala, lead designer at Futuremark Games Studio. "FPS fans looking for a new multiplayer challenge this holiday should check out Shattered Horizon for an experience that is only possible in a game without gravity."

It is a Steam game, so I guess not all of you will want it, but I've been in the Beta for a while now, and I've really enjoyed it.  If you've liked games like Shadowrun, Tribes, or even Section 8 you should enjoy this game.

Like I said, I'm really looking forward to this game.

I am really looking forward to this not only for the 0G fighting, but the views are amazing in this game, especially if you have a good gaming rig, but honestly it looks great on mid range rigs as well.

Okay so I decided to give it a shot and buy it. When I was in the beta it was pretty bad but thought what the hell I'm gonna support these guys.

Well I am glad I did. All I can say is this game is very, very fun.

I'll go over the performance first since I'm sure that's what everyone is wondering about.

Rig:

Q6600 @ 3ghz

4gigs DDR2 ram @ 810 mhz, 5-4-5-15 timings

ATI 5870 and tested on my old GTX 260 core 216

640GB WD HDD @ 7200rpm, 2 platters

500GB Seagate HDD @ 7200rpm, 2 platters

X-FI Xtreme gamer soundcard

Game settings with the 5870

1920x1080, all sliders max, 4X AA, V-Sync on and triple buffered

Game settings with the GTX 260 216 core

1920x1080, all sliders max, 2X AA, V-Sync off

Graphics/Performance

Now with that out of the way we finally have a true DX10 game out after all these years. It really shows what a wasted opportunity all this was. Considering the visuals this game runs pretty damn well. It looks better than any other game out their and runs better. Even with the max number of players. It shows that if all these other so called DX10 games were built from the ground up for DX10 they would have ran much better than they do currently. The game runs 30 + fps solid on the GTX 260. The only times it goes down to around 25 is when you are in dense, dense smoke.

I did try the game on the lowest settings and to be honest the game looks good regardless. It really does. However with all the bells and whistles on this game is a treat. You have all the latest eye candy. SSAO, volumetric fog, HDR, sun shafts, Parallex Occlusion, Bump mapping, and so forth. The game looks better than Crysis however it is not rendering nearly as much as Crysis is.

Gameplay/controls

As for the gameplay it really is something special. It is different and fun. You always have to be moving otherwise you are dead. Yes you can attach to the ground or objects and walk but that will get you killed (unless you are going to do some quick sniping). The movement is a little disorienting but I got the hang of it.

The space bar ascends and shift descends. Holding shift sticks you to the ground. The 'F' key pushes you towards the closest object to stick on and 'C' gives you a little boost. Holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse makes your character spin around.

The game has only one weapon. While zoomed out it's a machine gun, zoomed in it's a sniper that shoots 10 rounds at once. Gun has three types of grenades. First one shoots out ice and it evaporates covering that area. The second is an EMP blast which disables the suit. The third is like this grenade thing that does weak damage but it pushes the other player back.

Conclusion

If you play this game like you play any other shooter you will hate it. You need to give it a chance. My first 3 matches I would have 3 kills (mostly luck) and 20 something deaths. Key is to move around and always look around you.

The game doesn't have many maps but 3 more have been confirmed for release along with more promised content in the future. All free.

If you have Vista and/or 7 plus a mid-high range DX10 card I really do suggest you give the game a shot. At $20 you can't go wrong. Not to mention this is a real PC game. Support companies who still care about us. It's a good game and I recommend it. During beta the game ran like crap for me and gameplay was awkward. But it's improved so much.

It gets my seal of approval. I just hope it doesn't get pushed aside once that one game comes out. From the devs who think that custom features for the PC are mouse support, text chat, and graphic settings. And that 'lean' would unbalance the game.

PS: Forgot one thing. The F1,2,3 keys are your friend. F1 shows how movement works, F2 your weapon, and F3....forgot F3.

I was really tempted on getting this game untill i saw the requirements, sadly im boarderline on the min specs, as i have the min requirements for the Graphics card. The card for min requirements is the one i own, however the Proccessor i have is just under it, as i have a 5200 and it requries a 5600.

I guess my main question is, with my specs (seen in my profile) would you think i would still be able to run it at a decient rate?

Given,

nice review.

everyone else, if your computer meets the minimums, it will run the game, and it STILL looks good even at the lowest settings, sure the eye candy is most definitely worth seeing, but the gameplay of this game is well worth the purchase all by itself.
