Technical FAQs translation

About a week ago I e-mailed our moderator asking if he'd be willing to post translations of the FAQs in the appropriate forums. I noticed several topics by non-English speaking members, which could have been solved in a heartbeat, if these FAQs were available in their languages. Since there are currently no GFW-fora other than an English one, how are these people going to get the support we are getting through this community?

Unfortunately, I've had no reply from the moderator, but that's understandable due to the recent release of the new client update. Starting today, I'm going to translate the FAQs to Dutch and German for starters. After that, I'm going to start working on French and Danish translations. Anyone who'd like to help with translations to other languages, like Italian and Spanish, please do. This is stuff a community like ours could really help people with.

Would you be up for proof-reading my Danish translations? Danish is like my sixth language, so I'm not all that into specific terms.

Well then, the Dutch translation is up. For some reason I get some jibberish above the message, which can't be deleted through "edit", but apart from that, everything's allright. Where possible, I've used links to the Dutch Microsoft or Xbox site. Where it wasn't, external sources were used.

If there's a problem with me posting this translation on an official Microsoft-run board (Since I don't suppose any of the mods speak Dutch and can't check what I wrote), let me know, so I can upload it somewhere else and link from this forum using disclaimers.

That explains it then Smile Thanks for the okay, though. I was a tad afraid it wouldn't be allowed, since you wouldn't be able to check my translation. Now that I know it's not a problem, expect a few more translations shortly.

Thank you. I'll certainly make an effort to get this translated to three more languages besides Dutch.

La maggioranza di problemi di connessione hanno a che fare con una serie di pochi punti:

1) Verifica che tutte le porte siano aperte (la lista delle porte è disponibile più in avanti in questo post) o eludi completamente il router connettendoti direttamente al modem*
2) Assicurati di aver creato delle eccezioni nel firewall o eludilo completamente disabilitandolo*
3) Assicurati che non ci siano programmi aperti che potrebbero interferire. Questo varia da programmi di sicurezza come Norton Internet Security a programmi antivirus*, o semplicemente altri programmi come per esempio Xfire o Hamachi che sembrano dare problemi quando aperti contemporaneamente.

*Questi step sono forniti come assistenza guidata. NON raccomandiamo di lavorare tutte le volte in modalità DMZ o senza alcun tipo di firewall o antivirus. Una volta che hai constatato dove è il problema, cerca passo dopo passo di far si che il programma lavori CON il tuo software di sicurezza, e non lasciarlo inattivo per sempre.

Come verificare lo stato di Windows Live ID e dei servizi LIVE

Un servizio potrebbe essere inattivo, ciò ti impedirà di accedere ai servizi LIVE o di connetterti. Per verificare lo stato dei server clicca i link sottostanti (lingua inglese):

Stato server Windows Live ID

Se non riesci a connetterti ad nessuno di questi siti, per favore contatta il tuo fornitore internet (ISP).

Porte aperte richieste

E' necessario che le seguenti porte siano aperte per usare Games for Windows - LIVE

     - TCP 80
     - UDP 88
     - UDP 3074
     - TCP 3074
     - UDP 53
     - TCP 53
     - TCP 443

Per essere certo che queste porte siano aperte, o per aprirle, contatta l'amministratore della rete o il tuo fornitore internet (ISP). Se sei l'amministratore della rete, controlla la documentazione fornita con il software di rete per scoprire come aprirle.

NB: Certi giochi richiedono porte aggiuntive. Per favore dai un'occhiata al seguente articolo per dettagli sull'apertura di queste porte (lingua inglese):

Scheda di rete incompatibile

Alcuni utenti hanno menzionato al fatto di ricevere un errore di scheda di rete incompatibile non risolto neanche dopo aver aggiornato i driver e provato le altre soluzioni sopra elencate. Molti di questi utenti hanno riportato che questo errore può essere risolto in WinXP utilizzando un programma chiamato winsockxpfix. Questa soluzione è data dalla community e non può essere accertata, tuttavia diversi utenti hanno confermato che risolve il problema.

Sure no problem, you had the idea, and as long as you keep the credits at bottom of the page :D

Only thing is that I can't directly edit it in case I come up with something better to replace..

Credits are there, it still says it's translated by you. As for the editing, if need arises, we could always ask one of the Live team to edit something in.

Finally got some spare time to finish the German translation, which is now up. Next step is getting the FAQ translated to French.

The French translation will be done later. I'm rather busy at university for the moment, so I won't have time for it in the weeks to come. Anyone willing to do the translation to French?

Could perhaps also make stickies out of the German and Italian translations? They're sliding down into obscurity and since first posters don't generally use the search options to combat a problem, it could save the board a lot of pointless topics.
