I got it working eventually. I had to re-install the game, and the update still cocked up at 99% but this time after 20 minutes instead of failing it started to install.

Seems like this progress bar is about as accurate as the estimated time to copy a large file.

20 minutes, 10 seconds, no, wait! 2 days!

I can safely say I'll be avoiding games with the GFWL logo on the packaging from now on.

Hi, I've been trying to play Batman AA for PC for about two hours now this morning - like the good folks in this thread, I'm unable to continue the game I started yesterday because LIVE insists on downloading a game update first. After about 10 minutes, it gives up and suggests going to GFWL support, or saying that I'm not connected to the internet. Clearly I am, as I'm writing this as it tries to update for about the 10th time this morning.

As for firewalls, the game created an exception for itself during installation, so I'm pretty sure that's not it.

Is there any word on whether this is a server problem that means it can't find the right update? Are there links to the patch so I can download it automatically? I did a quick google search for the latter, but I don't particularly want to do a dodgy torrent for it.

Help please?

willblack:

Mine gets so far as to ask permission to perform this action (game exits) and then starts the install wizard. A few seconds in it displays this message:

Batman Arkham Asylum has not been installed or could not be found, the installer will now quit.

i have the exact same problem on win xp 32 bit machine. this is just great...

does anyone know is ordering the game from steam will have the same issue ? i can always take this GFWL back and try the steam version.

another happy user experience with microsoft... bravo !

Mine gave the same message. It hangs a bit on download, then begins the installer, then shuts the installer down. Same message as above about not being able to find BAA.

Lovely.

PS - I'm running Vista Home Premium 64bit w/ 2.5 dual core, 6 gig mem and a GTS 250 vid card.

Same problem here.  I let it sit for about 10 minutes then it pops up and says update failed.  I've even tried turning the firewall off.  This is getting ridiculous.  Release the damn patch.

This is why people buy PS3s & use Ubuntu.

From what I understand, I have to download some 3rd-party software to get my $45 dollar game to work properly.

Is this going to be GFW's solution to future problems? I'm not going to waste any more money or time finding out, thank you very much.

Downloading Winrar, downloading 3rd-party fixes, installing all this crap... sounds like Windows.

And ya know what? The program gives the same exact message.

"Batman: Arkham Asylum has not been installed or could not be found. This update installer will now quit."

Also, when I put the game in, instead of running the game, it tries launching the installer. I have to click in the "Games" menu on Windows to get the game to play. The disc is also acting like the game isn't on my comp, since the launch application doesn't even give me the option to play, only to install the game or Direct-X.

I've beaten the game on easy and normal so far, so I'm pretty sure it's on my computer.

I had no real problem downloading the update through GFWL. There was a little wait, but I have high-speed.

But to keep getting a message telling me the game isn't on my computer? Get real Windows (or Eidos, at this point I don't care anymore).

On a side note, I'm wondering what will happen to all of my progress and unlocked points and whatnot if I have to uninstall and reinstall? Anyone have experience with this? I'm assuming it will al be gone if I have to go that route, but Live isn't worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Ah, sorry about that, I guess I missunderstood what the issue was there, I thought you had mentioned that you could not download said patch.

Is the message you are getting regarding "ShippingPC-BMGame.exe " or 'BMGame.exe'?  Is it a generic dialog referencing no particular program as it says it is not installed?  Do you have it installed on a drive other than C:?

*EDIT* Looks like someone has found a workaround http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/7758/72492.aspx#72492 let me know if it works for you.

The error message is exactly what I said it was, but here it is again.

"Batman: Arkham Asylum has not been installed or could not be found. This update installer will now quit."

How about this for a work around GFW? I'm not wasting anymore time or money with GFW. When either Microsoft or Eidos wants to man-up & make an official fix, then maybe. Until then, PS3's are only $300 now.

Update: The work around doesn't help and I still get the same message, just so the rest of you know you're not alone if it doesn't work for you either.

Well I just got off the phone with GFWL support and what the guy said made a lot of sense. You're not gonna like it, but it's probably the only fix out there for now.

They said to uninstall B:AA, the GFWL client, & GFWL Redistributable client.

Shut of ALL firewalls, antivirus programs, everything. The issue may be that these programs are blocking some registry files and not allowing them to be installed. That may be why the update can't locate B:AA.

Reinstall everything again.

The problem with this is that you'll lose saved game info. The reason is Eidos apparently put in a program that attaches your gamer tag to the save info to prevent people from distributing saved games to other folks. So if you haven't saved any data yet, or you don't care about starting over, give this a shot.

I was assured that even if you uninstall the GFWL clients, your gamer points (the points from unlocking achievements) and Microsoft points (the paid for points) will be intact since Microsoft has that info on their servers.

For the record, my game works perfectly fine. It saves and does everything GFWL support said it shouldn't be able to do w/o the Live connection. The only thing I'm missing out on is leaderboards. Like I care what your score is lol. It just won't let me connect to Live & won't let me install the update.

To any forum mods: In the future, try to get an official response instead of directing people to 3rd-party software, installers, or changing file names to work around a very obvious screw-up. It's not helpful, it's irresponsible.

EDIT: I'm going for it. I'm gonna try it and see if it fixes the issue. Call me a martyr.

Well I did it and everything worked and updates as it was supposed to.

While this doesn't promise that the original problem was registry files not being allowed on the computer due to firewall/antivirus programs, in my case it worked (with regards to the "B:AA not found" error message)

GFWL support said my saved games were supposed to be in a Gamer Tag-specific folder, but I don't have that this time either. Just a folder titles "SaveData". Which probably means I could've/should've saved copies of my progress. Oh well, it'll give me something to do.
