Connection Issues with Marketplace client

I'm having a problem with the PC client for the Marketplace running under XP (X86) that is really starting to vex me.

Every time I try to run the client I end up with the following message:

The first time I attempt to run it, the splash screen displays for about 5-10 seconds, then the message pops up. If I try and run it again, the splash screen displays then almost instantly the message reappears. If I try just running the GFWLClient.exe the message still pops up.

I should add at this point, I can sign into the Live network in games perfectly well, there are no problems there. It seems limited simply to the Marketplace. And I've tried all manner of suggestions I've found looking through the site and forum:-

- Running it with the ports listed in the Connection problems FAQ open
- With my firewall and anti-virus switched off
- I've verified that my network connection is top of the priority list under Advanced Settings in Network Connections
- And I've lost count of the number of times I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, including following a guide from this forum to clear out any files or folders left behind and to ensure the registry entries were removed as well before reinstalling it

Yet nothing has solved the problem, so having tried everything I can think of, I turn to this option.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!

What firewall & antivirus program are you using?

I would try lowering the security settings of the internet, inside internet options. Clear internet cache. Check the connections tab make sure it coincides with the adapter that is connected to the internet.

My firewall is Comodo and my antivirus is Avast.

And tried playing about with what you suggested but no joy, same old connection error message.
