Tutorial: BEX error. (I did this tutorial in windows vista 64)
What is it?
It's a error g4wlive that crashes Games for windows Live when try to access friends list.
How do I get rid of it?
I solved ONCE FOR ALL the issue. Hope microsoft fix this annoying thing in a soon update of G4wLive. So... here the steps:
1. Go to My computer/choose Properties.
2. Go to Advanced system settings. In Advanced choose Settings (in Performance).
3. In DEP choose "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select".
4. Click "Add" to add the following .exe file: Games for Windows - Live Client
5. Follow the steps in this tutorial, DON'T TURN OFF DEP to any game you use in g4wlive, because it may cause some issue.
6. HAND for all players!
Hey, recently I reinstalled my computer, and then reinstalled Dawn of War 2 aswell. Upon reinstalling everything, I tried to run DOW II under this profile, and everytime I try, Games for Windows Live brings up a tab saying that it is downloading my profile... and then the download bar doesn't move for about 30 seconds and then an error appears, "Can't connect to LIVE,"
Error code 0x80151911. Now I came here, and have tried both method 1 and 2 as suggested, and have tried creating a new profile to use. Nothing. The thing is, when I run the Games fow Windows client outside of Dawn of War, I can connect and check up on my profile perfectly. There was also this windows fix I manually downloaded for 32 bit windows XP, but that didn't work either. Can someone help me please?
Check you're PC data.
Hello! My name is Martin. My english is poor so forgive me ;) I had and still have problem with connecting Games for Windows Live via Street Fighter 4. I reformatted disc C two times and every time just after installing Street Fighter it was ok. Tried everything: to open ports in my router, to configure and shut down firewall (Zone Alarm and Windows Firewall), I tried "netsh" commands, I was making new or deleting some reg keys and many many others. Latest night I normally played SF4 after fresh install but then I just turned it off and connected second pad to USB. What's interesting is that after deleting USB drivers, I lunxhed SF4 and could normally log into Games for Windows Live, there was no problem with that. But now something hapend again and I know that's not our fault. I think that GFWL 3.0 is not compatible with some drivers, maybe have a bug which will be repaired soon ( I hope so because thousands of people can't play Street Fighter 4 because of GFWL ).
Now I'm just gonna tell what did I do to run Street Fighter 4 properly (few times in a row):
1). Visit http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/524099-solved-how-do-i-uninstall.html . You'll se how to see "invisible" drivers (look at JohnWill answer).
2). Click "View" and "show invisible devices"
3). Delete all almost invisble drivers in "HID devices" (before make sure Your gamepad isn't connected to USB).
4). Reboot Your PC.
5). Connect Your gamepad (it will be good if You will put it in not used USB).
6). See if that works :)
I wish You luck guys! And please keep that thread aLIVE ;)

You have a standard connection issue. You need to open required ports to your PC in order to log into Live. I suggest following this thread http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/42.aspx
If you cannot figure it out, create your own post & the community can help you solve this issue.
This is a fantastic Thread, but I did notice that the initial post shows outdated information...
Run the latest OS Service Pack
Windows XP SP3
Windows Vista SP1
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Thats what it shows on the front page, but Vista has been up to Service Pack 2 for a while now....
Just thought i'd point that out incase a moderator or someone wanted to update that.
You have to learn to follow, before you can learn to lead.
Okay gentlemen, I am sick of this by now. When Dawn of War II was in Beta-phase I managed to connect to GFWL finally and make some games using a VPN connection (using VPN Client by Cisco Systems). I am living in a dormity room and have spent 50 Euros for a game not even worth buying since the multiplayer function is simply not working. So after wasting a lot of Money and 3 hours of precious time I am still having problems to connect to GFWL. Here is what I did:
Installed Dawn of War II, Installer was fine, Steam was fine, everything okay, game starts
First Problem: GFWL tells me that there is an update available and prompts me to download the patch, not objectin I click okay, Next follows the error message telling me that a connection could not be established ... okay .... so how it figured out there was a patch available? Tricky! I do look on google for the latest version and find version 3.0, download, install, fine - Next try, GFWL connects, wants to download another patch, okayyyyyyyyyyy ... and again fails (one might suspect a download error here, not sure). I ask a friend and he is telling me about a hotfix that came out some time ... download hotfix, install, fine, run DoW II, now guess what ...
he cant connect anymore ... he does neither find any more updates, which is fine, but on the same way, he wont even log me in to GFWL (seen on the green dot on the account beforehand, before patching to what I guess is 3.0b)
So here is my question: Why does a HOTFIX! disable my connectivity? I mean I wrote this whole situation so clearly to you that you see THERE IS a connection, IT DOES work and A HOTFIX STARTS MESSING THINGS UP. So maybe you dear fellows on XBOX-Live could let me know of any intelligent solution. Moving out from campus is just not happening, I have no rich parents who could afford paying my living you see?
So maybe, you could please start compiling something that works without heavyweight workarounds, and thanks, Ive been waiting for this game to come out for ages, I wont wait until DoW III

UPNP protocols are blocked on university networks. You can blame bit torrent for that. In order to play online through GFWL you will have to have ports opened. The hotfix did not stop your connectivity. You said the updates failed twice before the hotfix. That means that the university is blocking the ports that need to be open in order to update. You will have to contact your network adminstrator to resolve your issue.
Maybe someone can help me and my live connection problems too.
My first GfWL game was Flatout: Ultimate Carnage. I installed it on XP and had no problems with the GfWL connection. Since it was a review sample (I'm writing reviews for splashgames.de) and i don't like racing games that much, i gave it to my son (he only plays it offline on his XP computer) , so i can't test it on my new setting (new cpu, gfx board and with Vista/Win7 RC1).
But my pc is sharing it's internet connection with the 360 and that worked, i only had some nat issues. this was'nt a big problem because i don't play online that much and i have a silver account most of the time.
Everything was ok until i installed Dawn Of War II. First, it connected to Live, but after a while, it didn't connect anymore. The strange thing: my 360 also didn't connect anymore to Live. I set up the port forwrding in my router and the windows firewall and it worked again. Until I installed Universe at war, that i got together with Halo 2 for a cheap price. No game including DoW2 would connect to Live, also the 360.
Another strange thing: The ingame live app reported that there is a update on live for these games, but it could'nt download it. I downloaded and installed the updates manually but never got another Live connection. I tried a few things and now the 360 can connect on my Vista partition. On Win7 it doesn't work (Note to the Win7 developers: Great OS that got rid of a few annoying Vista things, but why did you made the port forwarding so much complicated, when it's needed for GfWL?)
I hope it'll work better on Win7 retail, since I already preordered it.
i get no error code or something, it's just saying that the Live service may be temporily unaivailable. Nat is open now, UPnP is activated but shows not connected in the game. Internet IP also shows not connected, system link not activated.

PLEASE HELP! sorry for the bad english

What country/region are you in ?
Brazil, but i choose EUA when i created the account.
Brazil is not a supported region. If you are "interested" in other method. It will work.
Sorry your country is not currently supported. Please see http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/2848.aspx for further details.
