I'm just about to buy Guild Wars and I need help which campaign to buy. (Faction,Nightfall)

If I buy Guild Wars will I have access to all the professions?

Because in some Youtube walkthroughs I've seen people when creating their character have the option to choose between the Faction,Nightfall, and normal campaign.  When they choose a campaign they have all the professions in that campaign.

Do I need to buy all the campaigns to have that option? Or if I just buy the original version of the game I'll still have that option?

I'd appreciate any help on this subject.

Also please answer the poll below :)

Guild Wars vs. World of Warcraft

Which is better, Guild Wars or World of Warcraft?

  • Guild Wars (62.5%)
  • World of Warcraft (37.5%)
  • Total Votes: 8

As far as that poll goes. its a matter of preference in MMO gaming.. not which is better..

I played both and I PREFER Guildwars.. BIGGEST reason is you buy the game and never have to pay monthly.. I can go out and play on my own with henchmen (NPC type characters) OR with a few Guildies... AND its always populated. Its not a persistent world like WoW where you can have your kills yanked from you.

As far as what you should get.. all three are stand alone.. Guild Wars Prophecies is the first and has the standard 5 classes.. Factions adds Ritualists and Assassins, and Nightfall adds Paragons and Dervish. but they BOTH ALSO have the basic 5 in Prophecies.. Eye of the North is the only one thats an expansion in the sense that you need to already have a character to play with, so no new class types in that game. Prophecies has a post apocalyptic fantasy wasteland -ish setting, Factions has a very oriental feel to it, and Nightfall has a African feel to it. Of course whichever game you chose, when you get the other two you open up your playing world to these places and continue to quest and explore with your toon, which is why you often see Dervish toons in Faction areas or Assassins in Prophecies.

I can't vote for the choices you put up there.  I played both games and they both equally suck.

Good answer.

But still, if I buy Prophecies will it include the other professions from Faction and Nightfall?

It showed a video where the guy was creating his character and it game him the option of choosing which campaign he wanted to create his character in (Factions, Nightfall, Prophecies).

you can't lump an actuall MMO with GW.

As to your question...buy the Prophecies + Eye of the North pack. Those are easily the best. Then get the other ones.

PS: No prophecies does not contain professions from Factions and Nightfall.

Only the base 5 are in every campaign.. Warrior, Elementalist, Mesmer, Monk, and Necromancer. These are the ones you can chose from in Prophecies ONLY.

Factions you can chose one of the 5 as well as the Assassin or the Ritualist.

Nightfall has the 5 as well as the Paragon or the Dervish.

You cant, say, buy Nightfall hoping to play as an Assassin. You have to have Factions for that.

That screen where you can chose your campaign doesn't show up unless you have another on your account as well, so when you start off, you wont ever see it.

Oh.. and those 5 standard classes.. they look different in each campaign.. for instance, the warrior has his standard look in Prophecies, but looks a bit oriental in Factions.

EDIT..Damn..Fly beat me to it.

*note I didn't read the above messages except for the OP's message*

Ok as for the first question, no you do not get all the professions from a single campaign.

Factions: Ele, Warrior, Monk, Ranger, Assassin, Ritualist

Nightfall: Ele, Warrior, Monk, Ranger, Dervish, Paragon

Prophecies: Ele, Warrior, Monk, Ranger.

They best campaign to start with (the one the makers recommend starting with) is Nightfall. This is because it is still very popular so you will get fast groups, it has the new "Heroes" which are customizable henchmen, and its story is overall the best one in terms of replayability and simply being able to understand what is going on.

I bought Factions first (because Nightfall was not out) and loved it. So don't get me wrong, factions is VERY fun. Just there are less people doing some of the missions making it a pain in the butt to get groups.

Now the original Guild Wars (aka Prophecies) is a different story. It is VERY LONG and drawn out and some of the missions are boring as crap, but its story is very good and compared to all the 3 campaigns (excluding Eye of the North expansion) I loved the prophecies story the most.

So in conclusion, my recommendation is starting with Nightfall, then buy Prophecies + Eye of the North, lastly when you feel comfortable you can get Factions.

How about getting Guild Wars Trilogy, and then Eye of the North?

I agree with this idea, but if you are not sure whether you will like Guild Wars don't do this.

I suppose you could download the 10 day trial off of http://www.guildwars.com and if you like it THEN get the trilogy.

Thank for the answers. =)

And by the way, what is Guild Wars Eye of the North?

I heard that you have to have Guild Wars to play it, and that you need to be level 20?

Could someone confirm this for me?

Thanks

You must own at least one of the three campaigns AND have a character at lvl 20. Now this doesn't mean you have to have FINISHED the game before moving on. It just means you have to have reached max level to be allowed to enter the area. Of course its been a while since Ive ventured out there so I dont know that it WONT let you go, but all the enemies will be considerably harder to kill.
