RAM is in every single computer.  To check, right click on "My computer" or "Computer" on the desktop and go to properties.  Look under system than look for Installed Memory.   32 bit version can only go up to 3 GB (correct me if I'm wrong) and 64 bit computers and go up to 12 GB ram and even more.

No, the RAM itself does not come in different versions. Your operating system, however; can only detect a certain amount based on its architecture.

Ahhh, not entirely true! There is both Parity and non-parity which you can still get both versions.

Also there is server RAM and non-server RAM (EEC vs. non-EEC).

Careful with the blanket statements there.

Just because you system has 2Gb of RAM does not mean your system is 32bit

Do this: Bring up "run" and type in "winver" without the quotes.

If you OS is 64bit you will see it listed there and that means you should have  64bit processor.. Download and install CPU-Z and this will give you much info about your Hardware.

If you have a 32 bit processor it will not be listed in the winver info.

And for those of you who like to quote figures, please be accurate for the benefit of new users etc.  32bit windows will address up to 3.5Gb of RAM and not for the reason you are thinking.  The limitation has nothing to do with the systems being 32 bit or 64 bit except for an issue that is not published.  Look it up.

With this in mind, what people maybe getting confused on is the recommended requirements for Win 7.

For 32 bit Users, Recommended is 1 gig of ram

For 64 Bit Users, Recommended is 2 gigs of ram. With more connections coming out of the processor more resources are needed to run the corresdponding OS connections.

With the maximum the pc can run, Ram is relative to the motherboard specs. Most new motherboards nowadays can run anywhere from 8 gigs to 16 gigs, at least commonly amoung the custom market. For baseline models, the common ones are between 4 - 8 gb. (Maximum).

Take my PC for example, the motherboard is only able to max out at 4 gigs of ram, based on the motherboard specs. Due to the fact the system is a little dated by todays standards.
