Let's talk Memory and Windows Vista!

I would like to ask a qusetion first about memory for a desktop computer.I have all the parts to build a computer(AMD PHENOM II X4 955,RADEON HD 5770,GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT) except for memory,I would like anyone's opinion as to what memory is good and will match the ga-ma790fxt.

question 2:I have windows vista home premium 32-bit,I would like to know how do you upgrade that to 64-bit.

Well, the Gigabyte site shows THIS chart for approved memory vendors for that board.

I would stay at the 1600 or less modules only because your MOBO doesn't support anything faster.  Which still is plenty fast enough, trust me.

That said, a couple sets of THESE will be fine, not too expensive, but will give you good performance, though you can go with OCZ, Mushkin or Corsair, whatever you like best, but at least the Gskill is on the approved compatibility list.

But make sure you buy in pairs, not single or threes, as your motherboard supports dual channel, this is the "sweet" zone for it.

To respond to your second question, you would have to first go to your performance review and click on the print out option, from there it will pull up a screen showing a few stats, one of which will say if its even able to be upgraded to 64 bit.

If it is, then you would have to go and do a custom install to have the option to upgrade to 64 bit, but dont forget to back up any files just incase something goes wrong.

If you want to upgrade, you might as well go for Windows 7.

Requirements for 64bit:

1.0Ghz processor or faster.

2Gb of RAM

and 20Gb of HDD space

because your system is new, you really don't have to worry about any other hardware requirements.  Your video card is good and that should do it.  I don't know why someone would tell you anything else.

If you want to know more and have a complete analyses, go to Microsoft and search for Windows 7 and run the analyses too.
