I think they are saying most PC gamers pirated COD4 as they stated a few weeks ago 60% was the PC piracy rate on COD4 so IWnet is their way of limiting this by controlling the servers but it does not really matter as MW2 is most likely an average sequel anyway (2 years is not long enough to make it exceptional when its still using the same 5 years old game engine) and the leaked videos of gfx/gameplay support that its just a console friendly COD4 upgrade which happens to support the PC!!!

Here is some advice. Stop listening to PR BS. Here are some fun facts for you.

1. Most servers check for a legit CD-Key. Therefore a pirated copy will not be able to play. IW are lying their heads off.

2. 2 million plus people have purchased CoD 4 on the PC.

3. MW2 has been leaked on the 360 for about 2 weeks now with downloads in the 100's of thousands. PC version is still not leaked. I am glad. IW deserves this. PC gamers in the official forums are laughing at those idiots.

4. You will love this. Now, the servers that don't authenticate the CD-Key. IW can still get data on them right? Well guess what. If a legit gamer plays on one of those servers then bam IW says it's a pirated copy. Imagine the number of legit gamers they have accused of as pirates.

5. In terms of actual cracked servers there are only about a dozen. Anyway you look at it what IW is saying doesn't add up. If they are not happy with 2 million plus sales then they can go screw themselves.

Another fun fact: Borderlands, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, and many other multiplat games have all been leaked for the 360 weeks before the PC version was up.

So please stop listening to BS PR. A 60% piracy rate in terms of the multiplayer numbers is not possible. (This isn't directed at you btw. Just for everyone in general.)

Because logic and common sense doesn't agree with that statement. Basically Robert Bowling is saying..."hey! Buy our game and if you don't like it we will change it!" While in his head he is going (yeah right, we will just get your money and say F off). These guys are so damn ignorant. They think they invented the freaking genre.

i hope sales do suck for the pc version so devs know we don't take *** and we expect a game that has better features than the last not worse.

as consoles grow in popularity i think pirated games will also and ive noticed 360 is gettin more and more of that (thank god).

not just a bad rap for pc gamers anymore

Who even cares about MW2 not me nor most PC gamers in the know as its not going to be anything other than a console friendly kids game.

You want some REAL facts (fun or otherwise!):

1: Activision on the accounts they filed for 2007 & 2008 did not sell more than 6-10% of their games on the PC versus 80%+ on the consoles (excluding handhelds) so how they manage to sell 2M copies on the PC when 12M plus copies were sold on the consoles would be not be possible given that ratio unless they are lying on their accounts (unlikely). Activisions accoutns even include the Blizzard WOW subscriptions so it looks even worse if you remove those numbers from the total!!

2: EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Eidos sold between 6-14% of games on the PC for 2007 & 2008 as stated on their accounts (which anyone can view online).

So as you can see the PC is struggling to survive compared to the consoles and thats not PR BS that's undeniable fact. The PC is not going to make a recovery anytime soon as it does not sell the same volume of games as the X360 & PS3.

Sure I would admit that most likely some publishers/developers decide PC is just not worth their time/money to fully support even though it made them who they are loyalty is a 1 way street and the greed is going to drive them away to the easy money they can make on the consoles and as their games are so cutdown anyway it makes little difference as PC gamers demand more for their money.

usually pc's make a big recovery about 1/2 threw a consoles life with big name devs because the tech gets so old they have to start developing some games on the pc to get new graphics technology technics down for the next gen of consoles. and that always brings alil bit more ppl to the pc side of gaming cause the games get on a whole other  level

That is bound to happen. Same goes for PS3. The only reason PS 3 is safe because not everyone has blu-ray drives. Once that become norm PS3 will no longer be safe haven.

Just a couple months after the release of the game it sold 383,000 copies on the PC. That is not counting Steam or D2D.

It had been on the PC top 10 charts for about a year...so what I am saying makes sense. Not to mention it was on the list of the top 100 PC games in terms of sales that showed the estimate number as well that was around 2 mil. I will try to find the link.

In the mean time here is the one with 383,000 only a few months after release.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/50951

Don't forget the recent studies showing that Digital Distribution on the PC is nearly as profitable as brick & mortar stores. 5 or so % difference. I linked it on these forums a while back.

It also takes common sense to figure this out. Look at the amount of time the game has been out and for how long it has been on the top 10 charts for the NPD, Steam, D2D, etc. If it sold almost 400,000 copies only what 4 months after release you can bet the number is much higher now.

BTW: Those are some wild numbers you are pulling out. Give me a link for that info.

PS: You are forgetting that PC games have a longer term growth rate than console games. As hardware evolves more people are able to play games that were released a few years back, etc so they go out and grab them.

Unfortunately they are not wild numbers at all.

I went to all those publishers investor relations websites downloaded all the accounts for both 2007 & 2008 (all quarters as well) & started to examine the figures stated for the PC as I wanted to decide for myself it I should bother continually upgrading my gaming PC's or not to determine why publishers/developers are now treating us PC gamers like scum (and yes plenty of PC gamers are pirate scum but plenty also buy lots of games and made these same companies who they are today!!!

You will have to do the same as me & trawl their websites download the accounts and see for yourself (took me about 3 hours in all as some are buried in their investor PR BS).

As you said PC games sell over a longer period of time but the numbers are still just not adding up when consoles sell millions of the same title you can see why they have shifted the focus away from the PC despite it being the best gaming platform on the planet by a long way. The thing about PC gamers buying new hardware and then buying older games unfortunately makes little difference as most PC games drop 50% 6 months after release and a further 25% 12 months later so the publisher gets an even smaller return on their investment (I know COD4 is an exception here to that rule but every other game I know is usually dirt cheap even 4 months after release as the demand is not there and the supply chain gets nervous so offers heavy discounts to trim losses).

Capcom have some interesting replies here as to the extent of just how expensive games development is:

PWXBOX360 is right as much as u guys want to fight pc gaming is not dying maybe it isn't, but the support from big time devs just isn't getting any better day by day and it makes me kinda sad that only a couple devs have even touched the technology  pc graphics and gameplay  have in the last couple years (crysis bein one) , hopefully pc finds alot more devs like infinity ward that start out with a pc only gems, but u know they will eventually go to console for the money,  that being said in the state  pc gaming is in right now i think  the best we can hope for is new windows 7 and dx11 helps and new devs come out of nowhere to  make gems like the 1st call of duty, wolfenstein, doom, farcry, crysis, half life, f.e.a.r  and just by  that great list of has been pc games think about how many of those developers put the pc version 1st in line...........

IF the matchmaking system is great and avoid piracy could be good, however IW needs make something to allow mods and user customizations in their servers, and remove 9v9 limit on PC!

Its not really using the same engine, sure its the same thing, but updated quite a bit.   I say I'm glad I'm getting it for the 360 and I will have fun playing it.
