Hello There,

Thanks for taking the time to click this link as I have a hell of a connection issue with Dawn of war 2. Its been going on several weeks (since the Last Stand Update), its only recently its become an issue due to wanting to play the game again.

So lets begin; everytime I run Dawn of war 2, the game will first ask me to log-in and then ask me for a serial code. Even with the correct serial code inserted the error message I get is: 'Can't connect to live' followed by 'Error code 0x80070002.  Another point of interest, is that everytime I try to run the Games for Windows Client with my username and password, it crashes.

That was two weeks ago, and about 5 hours in total of trying to fix it, I'm still nowhere near a solution.

One point I'm going to make, I have tried just about everything to fix this error. my ports are forwarded, my anti-virus is disabled. I have googled error code 0x8070002, every combantion of that error code with Dawn of War 2 and Games for windows live. I have uninstalled, reinstalled Dawn of War 2 and Games for Windows live multiple times. I have followed the support pages on this site and other microsoft support sites regarding this error.

Sorry if I sound bigheaded. I just want to point out that I have tried quite a few things and I'm not a n00b when it comes to fixing computer errors. The answer for this one however, continues to elude me. Last thing, I can't reformat my computer as a solution.

Thanks in advance,

EdgeForce

Most connection issues such as this are related to a few different problems

1) Verify that all ports are opened (Port list available here: http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/102.aspx) or circumvent the router entirely by connecting directly to your modem.
2) Ensure that allowances have been made in your firewall or circumvent it entirely by disabling it.
3) Make sure no programs are running that could interfere.  This could range from security programs like Norton Internet Security to anti-virus programs, or simply other programs such as xfire or hamachi that seem to have some issues running simultaneously.

4.)Make sure the time and date on your PC is set correctly

I was afraid I would get a reply like that. I can promise that my ports are open, I'm even using DMZ too, I'm not using any internet security software or any programs (espically xfire). I know the date is correct but, could the error be caused by my computer's clock being a minute fast/slow? and where do I check the correct time exactly?

Finally, Are you city fan?

Okay, checked the time now and synced it with internet time. Didn't solve the issue. Also I've read that thread HazardBox, thanks for trying though.

Welcome to the community EdgeForce.

Could you provide a little more info on this?  Is the issue just occuring in DoW2 and in the LIVE Client?  Is it happening in any other Games for Windows - LIVE games?  Have you attempted to uninstall the xlive software and reinstall it?  I know you have been working at this a while, but this is our first look at it so the more info you can give us the better!

First I would highly not recommend using DMZ for it will let everthing through. You should just open every individual port.

You have checked the ports externally outside your lan to make sure they are open correct? Have you used something such as Port Checker?

http://www.portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm

Have you tried the netsh methods? If not open a command prompt (as administrator if on Vista). Next in the prompt type in, "netsh winsock reset" and if needed "netsh int ip reset". Reboot your computer and try logining in once again.

GWLmod - Thanks for the welcome. I clearly stated in my original post that I had uninstalled and reinstalled the Games client multiple times. and could you please give me more information as to what Info you require. As for Games For Windows live games, Dawn of War 2 is the only one I have.

Elite Alien - Thanks the post mate. I had indeed tried the netsh int ip reset. I'm downloading Port Checker as I type this.

I had given up on this, however I've been given a copy of Red Faction for my Birthday to find that I've got the same error with the ingame client there aswell.

I checked those ports Eastman, all fine and that connection test was all ticks except for the NAT translator test, the tcp and traffic congestion test were not run. It does mention needing windows vista while I'm still running XP however.

Hi,

By what methods did you test those ports?

Can you run the IGD internet test again > click on "view detailed report" when finished and report back what it is says under NAT?

Also who is your ISP ? What type Cable/DSL?

How is your computer connecting ? Wired/ Wireless?

Which Antivirus software do you run ?

What Router do you have?

What modem do you have?
