I just bought GTA4 last night from target and installed it just 30 minutes ago.

I am using windows vista 32bit sp1 with all the latest windows updates and all the other updates that go with the game but the last patch

crashed the game executable and I was NEVER ever able to run the game.

So IS there a link to download the GTA 4 patch directly?

Do I need to disable UAC in vista? Why is the patch unable to write over its own files? abort......retry....ignore...

I did nothing special mods and is just a plain vanilla retail legit version of Vista install.

Anyone have any workarounds?

Seems like the patch itself wasn't enough - i had to load GFWL from the start menu to which I was prompted to install a flash update. This worked. So anyone in my situation, do the following.

Upddate to the latest GFWL then run the app from the start menu to apply the latest hot fix.

Job done.

I only got the game Tuesday and let it run all the updates it suggested. Not sure what version of Games For Windows Live i'm on right now, I thought it was graphics issues and reinstalled drivers about 3 times before finally throwing the dummy out the cot (so to speak) and searching the internet for clues. Found a post here from 'Wedge The Jedi' but he didn't explain how to do it [:'(] - I trawled the site to try to understand what he meant and updated GTA4 with the latest updates, but that didn't work, didn't realise it was the online service causing this, I'd never have guessed aaarghhh..

So if I finally get this right, the latest version of GFWL (which is what's causing the stuttering) should be v2.0.687.0 (according to the link). Is it better to totally deinstall the previous version first ?

Sorry to be such a dumbmofo. I'll try all this once I get home later. Cheers again.

Hi all, I'm still having this issue with the stuttering.. really have no idea what fix i'm supposed to have and whatever else. Please can someone give links etc and explain what i have to do to be able to play this without any 1 - 2 second pauses in the game play. I'm not particually computer literate so laymans terms would be greatly appreciated. As far as i know i'm on the latest update (since i can log into live with my tag and save game etc ingame.)

While I am disappointed that R* entered into the agreement to make GFWL a required part of the GTA4 package, thanks to the team for getting the problem fixed.

I'm guessing the team will probably be more vigilant about testing for impact in the future.

Thanks for your patience, a new update is avaible that addresses the stuttering issue with GTA IV. Just log in and apply the new update.

Ya its working! I hope that their will not be as many post about live problems.
