GFWLMod, I've just tested this, but I had no luck . The error I'm given is the same. Also let me take some time to explain my case: As you know, I'm using another laptop in which there's a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit. I installed Halo 2 using the full install, but couldn't activate, so I left the game untouched. Today, as I

I'll try all those steps too when I get back my gaming laptop in about two weeks. I'll post the results too.

I can only wish it was true... I loved the first Gears game on PC. But having to watch a friend play the second one on the Xbox 360 while thinking at the same time that I would never get to play it on PC was saddening...
To be honest? I don't have that data, I would assume the majority have been via upgrading, which is always problematic, but people have not been reporting if the installs were clean, or upgrades, and I have not been requesting it as much as I should have. Good call, I seem to remember you mentioning you were upgrading
Ok, so, that SHOULD I think be triggering that error, that error should happen when two programs try to use xlive.dll. Though it simply could be that is the two tasks generated by a crashed game and the error text.
Alright, time to chime in here. I just saw about the two Halo2 applications running at the same
No problem. Start Menu -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> View Event Logs -> Windows Logs -> Application Under application you will just look for the error and post up the info
Could be much easier than that. After all, it's Windows 7 we're talking about
Tampering in this case can refer to someone attempting to modify it, or there simply being an issue with the file. As you said since you are doing clean installs it should work. As for RTM being the issue, potentially? I am on an enterprise version but I honestly do not know enough about the differeces in the nitty gritty

Well, I can assure you that I didn't tamper with xlive.dll in any way. I didn't even know that file existed until I started getting this problem. Halo 2 has not been tampered with either, since I'm doing clean installs of the game and even deleting all the related files I can find. The signature validation system is something different.
Looks like its something to do with using the upgrade option rather than doing a fresh install of windows 7. seem some of the early GFWL games get a bit fubared in the upgrade process.
Not really. The problem we're having here has to do with Games for Windows LIVE 3.0 not working right with some games
