thanks for the social club tip, i've got it to work on my end. just skip the login for the social club. you won't be able to play online, but you can play single player while they fix their servers.

ya the serial you get with the game is an online activation as well as a serial to get into the game as far as i can tell. you have to legitimately log into games for windows live to be able to play the game. with everyone trying to log in at the same time, their servers can't keep up. it seems that rockstar should have been able to anticipate this

Here is rockstar's brittish support man's answer: "too many people trying to login, ya?" me: "so there's nothing wrong with the game, it's just a server problem on your end?" brit: "ya, so just bear with us, we're working on it."

me too. buying the game and sitting through a 40 minute install to come to this isn't what i was hoping for. let us know what rockstar has to say.
