Now that's a mystery. So you don't have a D drive?
-
Are you sure it's installing your fallout addon to the A: drive? Where are you seeing that error? It should be trying to install it to the D: drive, based on the results.
-
Fidelio66, can you run this at a command prompt and tell me what the result is? reg query HKCU\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\XLive

Ouch. Well, whatever it is, it's breaking both us and Windows Update. I'm not sure what else to suggest; maybe look around for other Windows Update problem solutions related to this, or call support (ours or Windows, Windows will probably help more).

Hrm. Some other things to try: 1. Does windows update work? 2. Try creating a new windows user account - does the client download anything there?

Run services.msc at start menu->run. Scroll through and look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service. Does it show as running? If so, do any of the manual methods here and see if that fixes it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520

Hrm, sounds like your background intelligent transfer service is busted. Try rebooting? If that doesn't work there's some other things to try, but they're nastier.

1. Warning you that downloads are continuing on quit is normal behavior. 2. Run bitsadmin /list /verbose at a command line. What do you see?

We have a bug where we don't detect the hotfix properly on XP 64, so you don't get the prompt. Download the XP 64 hotfix from here , choose your language if non-english. Yes, it says Windows Server 2003, but that's the correct one.

Can you download the cab file link in internet explorer?
