You all act as if MS owes you something. The bottom line is, setting up live in territories costs alot of money. So if they don't think the service will be profitable in a couple months why would they invest into it? It's not like every russian province, town even has internet.

funny, but you are completely right - they owe us something. When they officially sell games (localized ones)  in country which is not Live-capable they owe us full functionality of the product sold. They are selling xbox here since 02.2007 and looks like they are ok with the fact that there is no live support here.

but the most sick is this GFWL thing : pc users dont give a **** about all this Live functionality and often even have no idea that this **** is required to play legitimately purchased game (in case of online purchases). I personally think that GFWL is the elegant way to bring down PC gaming as a whole - when people who bought game can not play it.

Those of you from unsupported countries, you can try creating a new account, and select a supported country before playing. That way you can play online till LIVE officially comes to your country. Problem solved (?).

when you tell me how to transfer already activated game to this account - yes. did i already mention that allowing to activate game for account with unsupported region is one of the greatest ideas i have ever seen? why is my country in live account creation region list at all if it is not supported?

CoolingGibbon:
And I really hope everyone is aware that GFWL is supported wherever XBL is supported. The two aren't different systems.

guess what: i have no idea about XBL and i dont intend to

As to your other claims about people being "scummed" we do request that publishers who sell LIVE games in countries that are unsupported put a sticker on the box, however we are not responsible for distribution, so ultimately the decision rests with the devs and publishers.

  1. make devs/pubs incluge GFWL into the product
  2. "request" that they put a sticker saying "dear customer, you will pay for 100% of the product but you will get only 50% of it"
  3. dont require it and dont control it
  4. pubs will of course put no stickers as it will result  lower sales and profit
  5. ignore angry customers
  6. ***
  7. profit !!!

Actually it says on the back of All my game boxes.  And this is a quote

"LIVE is not avaliable in all countries, please go to www.gamesforwindows.com/live/countries for detail."

Also further on down

"While most broadband internet services will work with LIVE, some may not, check with your service provider"

Other wise it should work.

well... does it say that this strange thing called "Live" i have never heard about is required to play the online part of the game?

Do you think they are aware of LIVE limitations? Do you think that the back of the games' box makes them understand that after they give away their money and go play their brand new game...that they will not be able to play online?

lets be honest - usually there is no such thing as box - why wasting space on the shelves? most stupid thing is purchasing game off steam, d-2-d etc and finding gfwl there. what a crap... but thanks god this is a mistake you make only once.

Any time someone from an unsupported country posts to the forums I provide them with the information that they need.  Additionally, it is actually possible to play from countries that are not technically "supported" if you choose a country that is supported during account creation.

wait a moment... and what about those HUGE costs ms have for supporting live? you, representative of live team, tell me i should "steal" money by providing incorrect information and use recources intended for other countries?

what about games already bound to account with my true country of origin?

please reply to the following questions:

  1. WHY ARE THOSE UNSUPPORTED COUNTRIES STILL IN THE ACCOUNT CREATION FORM?
  2. WHY TERE IS NO CLEAR WARNING AT THE GAME ACTIVATION, THAT THIS PARTICULAR GAME WILL LOOSE FUNCTIONALITY AND THAT THIS IS IRREVERSIBLE?

thanks

VIRUS799:

No, Microsoft just believes that your country is not a very good place to invest money in. Either because of pirating, broadband lines, or even just the market of videogames, etc...

what does ms provide for pc games? do the host servers? lets take newly released Section 8. its purely multiplayer game and it is developed and published not by ms. and im not able to play it. if we check support forums for S8 we will find out that most problems are gfwl-bound. i hope at least this will make developer and publisher think twice before including this piece of crap into their next product.

It says it on the back of the box.

please stop posting misleading info. as an example a i have localized official russian PC release of Gears of War. there IS written that "Live availability depends on the country" but there is nowhere written (minimum requirements?) that Live (and even internet connection) is required to play this game.

i will repeat myself again: i have no idea what live is and i do not want to untill it is stated that it is minimum requirement. then i will have to find out a little bit about this service and either cheat ms or refuse from purchasing this product.

Community-

On a seperate note, personally, I don't approve of any individuals in  a LIVE supported country posting to this thread with anything other than words of encouragement or an understanding.

do you really think we, who was cheated by ms and publishers using ms live thing, need "words of encouragement or an understanding." ? for example all that i need for now is moneyback or transfer of my game to new account with "true" country.

<ENGLISH>

Unfortunately we are only able to provide Techincal Support for LIVE. Hopefully as more cusotmers post their concerns and frustrations, within reason, that the people who can make changes will make changes for those that truly want to be part of the LIVE experience.

And to answer your quesiton, yes, I think people like to hear supportive feedback, otherwise, how does change truly start? Surely not by complaints alone, but with empathy and understanding to those complaints.

Xezerez, could you please answer to my following question officially:

i live in Russia. i have purchased Section 8 from Steam, but i can not play online because i receive live error message during login "LiveID belongs to the region not supported by Live". There was no information at the moment of purchasing neither that the game is GFWL nor that i`m required to live in specific country to be able to play it. What can i do to be able to play the game?

ps: please dont get me wrong, but i dont want to be "part of LIVE experience" (as the significant part of PC gamers. just google it.) - i would like to play officially purchased games without any ridiculous limitations.

Regards,

Alexei

TurisRu-

Have you tried the following:

Launch Steam client

Signin to Steam

Go to Games tab

Right click Seciton 8 and left click Launch Game

Once game starts press Sign-in

You should be prompted with either singing in with LIVE profile or Offline Profile -> select Offline Profile

Give it a name you want, example: Section8

Then the game should start where you can play the campaign mode in single player.

As for playing multiplayer, that would require you to be connected to LIVE. If you are still unhappy with this experience, then have you contacted Steam via their forms or in email to ask what other online options are avaiable? The reason I ask this is because Steam would be the only company capable of issuing you a refund as the LIVE Srevice for Games for Windows LIVE games if FREE, we dont' charge you to create an account or pay a subscription.

While I understand your frustrations, for what it is worth, I really do, hopefully you understand that there is nothing in LIVE Support that we can do for refund request of a pc game.

TurisRu-

Then why don't you tell us how we can contact your bosses directly those who made the decision not to make LIVE available to all countries. Why do they always hide behind so many layers ?

single player works, but SP is fiction in this kind of games (like Battlefield series and other multiplayer-oriented games).

thanks for reply
