Extremely Helpful guide. Thank you very much. Windows Live should hire you on, since they just sell the stuff. They need a better customer service venue. Once again, very helpful. Cant thank you enough

What are you trying to do when this happens?

Can you please give the error message verbatim? Possibly post your event logs. Also are what mods are you using?

I can see here your Fallout 3 is not up to date. Are you getting prompted for an update? If so what happens?

What antivirus are software are you running?

no i havent been prompted i cant download my live profile propally i think cause when i go into fallout menu press home it goes to live and i use an existing live account and then it comes up downloading profile i dont think it does it propally cause it says (u have not sighned in to a gamer profile profile and u need to and select a storage device until then autosave is disabled)  that comes up behind the profile download box and it doesnt even start downloading it then a do you want to update this game and when i do it just loades to the end and doesnt do anything and ive waited for a while but nothing happens and so i press home and it goes back to the fallout menu with that message  i just told u (u have not signed in to a gamer profile bla blah blah.  and so thats why i cant get an update and as for antivirus software ive got mcafee

One good program thats out there, and will solve many of these problems for you, is gameshadow. It will scan your computer fro games and drivers, and update them. Its free, and you just watch their adds, while its downloading. Works very well for me. Big Smile

OK so the fact that it does not finish downloading your profile makes me think port 3074 is not open. I would begin troubleshooting there. This could be your antivirus or router blocking it. First I would try uninstalling the antivirus for troubleshooting purpouses. If that does not fix I would look at opening ports on your router. The fact that there is not prompt for update is concerning. However it is hard to troubleshoot that until we have a connection to LIVE. Check the back of the box and see where your copy of Fallout 3 was made or printed.

Ok port 3074 is your connection to LIVE services.

If you paid for anti virus software you should not have to pay to reinstall it. If you are unsure you will have to contact the support for your antivirus software.

Here are somethings you can try

Check the MTU on your router the value should be between 1365-1500 anything lower will prohibit your connection to LIVE.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx (what are the results of this test)

You can try a clean boot

Clean Boot

Restart the computer by using a clean boot procedure When you start Microsoft Windows, other software may start with the operating system. These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs and may interfere with the game. Therefore, you may be returned to the desktop, receive an error message during multiplayer session, or the game may stop responding (hang). When you perform a clean boot before you start setup, you prevent these programs from starting automatically. To perform a clean boot in Microsoft Windows XP, follow these steps.

Note To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure.

1. Open System Configuration. To do this in Windows Vista, click Start the Start button , type System Configuration in the Start Search box, and then click System Configuration in the Programs list.

User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue .

To open System Configuration in Windows XP and earlier versions, click Start , click Run , type msconfig , and then click OK .
2. Click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup .
3. In Windows XP and earlier versions, click to clear the following check boxes under Selective Startup :
Process SYSTEM.INI file
Process WIN.INI file
Load Startup Items
In Windows Vista, click to clear the following check boxes under Selective Startup :
Load system services
Load startup items
Use original boot configuration
4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All .
5. Click OK , and then click Restart .

Start the game that you want to play. After you exit the game, restore the computer to use an ordinary startup. To do this, follow these steps:

2. Click the General tab.
3. Click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services .
4. Click OK , and then click Restart .

Please also let me know the following

Version of Windows: (Start>run> type "winver" press enter)

ISP:

Modem:(model/brand)

Router(model/brand)

Connection type:(wired/wireless)

Anti Virus/ Firewall Software:

Have you been able to connect to live before or this your first attempt: ?

Ok, sorry call me stupid but I am still confused at how when I sign into LIVE it takes me to XBOX LIVE, and the marketplace that sells ONLY XBOX content...Is the XBOX Live the SAME as GFWL????  So.. let me get this straight:

1) I first have to give a credit card signed up to my LIVE(xbox live..er.whatever) account.

2)I follow the steps listed above to obtain the PC DLC.

3)Download the DLC from WITHIN Fallout 3 itself.

I can get as far as the DLC list where it says to redeem points n stuff.. and I have the game installed on G:...ugh..hope it all works... Somtimes, putting add-ons in a box on a store shelf is better...figures the deluxe edition had to come out right after I spent full price on the original..  Please tell me if I sound like I have this figured out. Thx.
