If you are using Windows 7 Beta, please post your issues here in this thread. Games for Windows LIVE is not officially supported on Windows 7 until the product is officially released. If you encounter an issue while using LIVE on Windows 7, first, make sure you have done the following:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.       <!--[endif]-->Correctly configured your network. For more info, go here:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/Support/Pages/troubleshootingIssues.aspx

<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.       <!--[endif]-->Installed any available drivers for your hardware

You may also need to install additional drivers, BIOS, or other software for your motherboard, Network adapter, etc.

Here are some recommended links for troubleshooting hardware installs:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.       <!--[endif]-->Followed troubleshooting steps for problems in the Support FAQs and Forums FAQs

Any issues posted here will be reviewed; however, they may not necessarily be resolved. Additionally, currently there is no phone support available for Windows 7 issues, so please do not call support for help, as you will be redirected to this message board.  If you have issues specific to billing, you may contact LIVE Technical Support via the phone.  You will be required to provide proof of purchase, and this is only for Billing issues, any technical issues they will be unable to assist you with.

Please dial 1-877-274-4349 from 9 am EST (6 am PST) to 1 am EST (10 pm PST).  Our technical support agents there will be more than happy to assist you.

If you have issues with Win7 in general, here are a couple of places you may be able to get assistance:

Woot! an official unofficial Windows 7 support thread Stick out tongue

Thanks!

One suggestion, re-title thread to say RC1 instead of Beta.

That said, anybody have issues with Windows 7 coming out of hibernation and not running peripherals properly?  It's happened with DVD drives and printers for me.

They work fine after a reboot.

I gotta disable this hibernate thing...

So far that's been my only real problem with W7 (other than Kane & Lynch not wanting to run for any length of time).

Win 7 RC is non-supported by GFWL or any titles; however, if we find a workaround or resolution, we will share, hopefully the GFWL Community will do the same.

OS: Win 7 RC applies to x86 or x64

Title: Dawn of War II

Issue: Crashes when starting game through STEAM

Other notable issues: Unable to Update DOW2

Workaround: Install the BETA Client for STEAM

Launch Steam > Select File > Settings, and on the Account tab will be a drop down. Select Steam Client Candidate, and then allow Steam to restart itself.

If it does not restart itself, close the Steam client and then restart it. If it says you are running in Compatibility mode, then right click your Steam shortcut, select Compatibility tab and remove ALL checks, even the Run As Administrator. Select OK, then launch Steam.

Steam Client should update and you should not have any problems. Pay attention when you launch DOW2 from within STEAM, you may see a firewall message that you will need to press UNBLOCK or ALLOW, you will have to ALT-TAB as your screen will be trying to load DOW2.

If you need more details on this process or what the client provides, then you should consult with STEAM Support.

Just wondering, does the LIVE team have a copy of the official Windows 7 yet?  So you guys can test each LIVE game to make sure its in working order.

If you mean a RTM version, yes, most in TEST and DEV are well versed in compatiblity, but also keep in mind that it's importnat to know that this is a two way street. Publishers will also have to provide some type of update to ensure end-to-end compatiblity.

It would be a grave injustice if we did not test the ability of each and every GFWL game title, by region, country, and language to connect to LIVE; however,  that does not mean that we can provide a fix or update if an issue was discovered. But, we would follow due-diligence and report any issues as necessary, it's not like we want anyone to have a bad LIVE experience.

While there are no magical wands to wave and make things perfect, we do have this community where if we foster its development, then everyone would benefit, everyone!

I can't get halo 2 to work at all!! Gears of war works and plays fine so dose universe at war but all halo 2 will do is give me the following error "LIVE Gaming on Windows failed to initialize. This may be because another LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as Halo 2 dedicated server) is running on the same machine. Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix the problem"

I get this no matter what I do I have reinstalled the game and LIVE 6 times and still the same message yet my other GWL games work fine??? Side note I can get halo 2 to load if I remove my network cable, but I can't get past the login screen due to havin no internet! So asfar as I can tell its a problem with the LIVE client and halo comunicatting online?!?!?!

Any help or a work around would be great.

Bug Fixes

If you start the game using the Play button on the Autorun screen, you may experience the following issues:

  • Personal preferences (for example, resolution settings) are lost
  • Custom maps do not appear on the map list

To fix this problem:

  1. Go to Start, click Run, type “regedit,” and then press Enter to launch the Registry Editor
  2. Go to the following registry entry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\]
  3. Change the “SetupPath” value so that the word “binaries” is capitalized. For example: “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\binaries\” becomes “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\”

Title Update 3 (Most Recent Game Patch)

Hope this helps.

I've been having a rather odd issue with GFWL that I was hoping I could get some assistance with. I've looked everywhere for an answer!

When I attempt to play a game using GFWL, most recently GTA IV and Street Fighter IV, I am unable to even attempt to log into GFWL. I am greeted with this screen: http://delibirdmd.org/user/nolan/GFWL%20error.png

Clicking done does nothing and neither does hitting the back button. The link sends me to the GFWL site, obviously, and that's about it. Please help!

What happens when you press the home button?

Just curious.

I'm thinking your LIVE install is malfunctioning.

Download and SAVE to your desktop the latest LIVE client, you can get it HERE

Open your add remove programs and uninstall your current LIVE client.

Reboot your computer.

Install the latest LIVE client that you just downloaded.

Try playing your games now.

And by the way, I do not think this is Windows 7 related.
