morpheus2n2:

Any news on the Halo 2 problem as my 360 has just died and i need a Halo fix lol

For future reference please restate your problem when you post again, for some times I am easily confused, especially at &;30 am on a wed :)

As far as the halo 2 issue, could you verify you have the newest .net framework, and network card drivers installed?  Also could you post up a screenshot(s) of the error msg?

TheBloodySix:

My GFWLClient.exe is showing as 3.0.89.0 (Modified 10/08/2009 - 10th August in UK format)

Hello again Jim,

I have been given a potential solution for you to try, delete the contents of your %localappdata%\microsoft\GFWLive folder, this *should* fix the issue, please post back here with the results.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have deleted all the contents of this folder:

appsettings.dat
livedata.dat
Downloads
 (Folder)

and rerun GfWL client. Crash happens exactly as before...

When I checked the folder the same files had been recreated.

The BloodySix-

Thanks for providing the details from yoru dxdiag. Unfortunatley, I may have overlooked your event logs, did you provide them by chance?

It would help to see what is occuring as it seems, based on your description of the issue (and screenshots) that this could in fact be a firewall issue, but i am not certain, just a hunch.

Do you have two firewalls running? Like one for Windows and a seperate Anti-Virus / Firewall product? Do you have a firewall on yoru router as well?

If you would not mind, can you do a direct connect to your cable/dsl/fios router and see if the issue / experience is the same?

But i still would like to see your event logs, especially before and after you nuked your %appdata% content (by the way, you should always make a system restore point before doing that, would hate to see you be in a non-bootable state due to a mistake or misunderstanding.)

can you call GFWL phone support for me and advise them that you were directed by me to call them?

also, i would like to know if you woudl consider running a 3rd party network trace (wireshark.org) or you can use netmon if you are familiar with it and capture the packets when trying to connect to live before and after you get this error.

Secondly, if you are not found of trying that, would you consider FIDDLER as it is more user friendly if you are not used to viewing network traces?

If you woudl not mind, this may be helpful in getting your issue resolved as it seems, by the error and experience, that you are trying to play H2V on the same box that you are running a dedicated H2V server on. Obviously, this is not the case, right?

Please keep me in the loop on this as i would hope that you would call into support so we can identify a root cause.

And to the community, i am making an exception for Morpheus2n2 on this issue as it seems like something we may want to review prior to Win7 launching in October, but this is an exception ask, not an open invite for all Win7 issues to call into GFWL phone support.

Thank You!

Xezerez:

I posted yesterday about this very same issue in here: http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/7700/71860.aspx#71860

Basically what I found out is that Halo 2 has problems when installing AFTER another game has updated LIVE to 3.0.

Halo 2 tries to run for the first time, looking for LIVE 1.0 or 2.0 on Windows 7, and when it fails to do so, it simply gives that error.

Now, if you run Halo 2 as your first installed LIVE game, then it will update itself to 3.0 and run properly, but that means that you would have to reformat your PC so that you can have Halo 2 as your first LIVE game.

I believe a patch is going to be needed here... and soon if Microsoft doesn't want complaints from Halo 2 gamers who bought Windows 7!

Xezerez ,

I now only have the Windows firewall running, I uninstalled Agnitum Outpost, which hasn't helped. I also tried disabling Windows Firewall and still no luck.

I have always had a direct RJ45/ethernet connection into my router. I have enabled UPnP and Disabled the Router firewall. Still no luck.

Other things I have tried:

Uninstalling all Visual C++ versions, and installing Visual C++ 2008 (both x86 and x64)
Uninstalling .Net Framework 4.0 Beta

Can you please clarify which logs you want to see?

Thanks for your help
