If you cannot patch your game on any of those titles, you have connection issues. Open your firewall & you will have no problems updating.
Quite honestly if you do not every try to resolve issues you have with your PC or network, you are going to run into this problem everytime in every Live game. Manualy patching a game is really not a necessary task. Do yourself a favor, create a thread about not being able to update ingame & the community can diagnose the problem.
I'm having the same problem, GFWL seems to get my user name and check everything just fine but the patch just won't download and it hangs there at roughly 98%. Disappointing to buy a new game have have to install a day 0 patch, only for it not to install.

Lol i have to manually patch games, i cant open any ports etc i have a 20 kbs internet, I use t-mobile mobile broadband, which i connect with my phone. manually patching the game is the only option for me, unless its steam. GFWL patching doesn't work with my internet.
That would be a huge reason.
Update: just after than post, I left Arkham Asylum open at the download screen and, after not being able to use my computer for a hour with no indication of progress, it finally installed.
Honestly, if you're going to force people to use the in game 'service' to download the patch, at least have an accurate progress bar, information on how big the file is or the time remaining/speed of download. This kind of thing was commonplace a decade ago. Games for Windows Live should make the experience easier, not mar it.
He did say it is RTM..
GFWLMod: BlackRaven HU:windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (rtm) rtm? or rc?

Apparently this is the latest date on steam that Batman got an update for...
LOL
I remember seeing that in TF 2..
Don't take any notice of how far the update has gone, just let it go.
A question GFWLMOD. Are the LIVE servers all based in america or are there local mirrors in different regions of the world.
Maybe region mirrors are needed so that such issues don't rise. I know that here in australia I get good ping rates while playing other australians but as soon as someone from europe, africa or the americas join it immediately seems to slow everybody down.

It would be nice to know what it's doing, the speed it's doing it, how long it's going to take or even if it's doing anything at all, though.
Got it working thanks for the help everyone
Mine gets so far as to ask permission to perform this action (game exits) and then starts the install wizard. A few seconds in it displays this message:
Batman Arkham Asylum has not been installed or could not be found, the installer will now quit.
I'm using Windows 7 RC 64bit. I've even turned off my Firewall!
Great stuff Microsoft! :D
Can I just update this manually somehow without downloading potentially dodgy stuff from Rapidshare? Even better, could I just do away with this craptastic bit of software and just play the game without live? What happened to the days where I could just save a game without being connected to the internet? Those days were fun, and made sense.

Ironically, it seems the only people who aren't being hindered by the copy protection are the people who pirated it.

Well, as usual, I would ask if you can provide more system info, a dxdiag log, screen shots of the error etc. Saying it's broken and generic error does not help me to help you.
Vista Ultimate 32. Game will not update thus game is worthless. At the very least have a patch for every title on your website so we can manually download what we need instead of having to scrounge on forums for wierd rapidshares and *.ini file changes or whatever wierd almost-ritual we have to do. Stop making us feel like pirates when we buy games for your system. And you aren´t getting my dxdiag at least because you pissed me off.
