There is an issue that I have followed for about a week now with installing Halo 2 on Windows 7. This could apply to Vista as well but I haven't heard to much about it.
The issue is when one of 2 things occurs.
1. If you have other GFWL games on Windows 7 with the updated GFWL Client then install Halo 2, it will fail to initialize.
2. If you install Halo 2 first but already have the GFWL Client V. 3 installed it will fail to initialize.
If you find yourself in this predicament, this is what you need to do.
First in either case, fully uninstall both the client and Halo 2 and if you have other GFWL Games, you need to completely uninstall them as well. A complete uninstall means to remove all trace of them from you PC. If you have game saves, you will have to search the forums on how to backup your saves for each individual game. It can be different for different games and for at least one game, because of it's anti cheat engine, this may not be possible. So remember to delete all game folders etc. for a complete uninstall.
Essentially your Windows 7 PC needs to be as if there have never been any GFWL games installed.
Next step is to fully install Halo 2. Follow through to install the client and allow Halo 2 to update, upgrade etc. both the game and the client. Be certain to follow throught with this process until there are no more updates. Check the clients version to see what version of GFWL Client you have. If you have the 3.0 version you have been successful and you can now continue to install the rest of your games.
If you do not see the most up to date version of games for Windows live, then continue to update the client through Halo 2 until you have the most up to date verison of GFWL Client installed on your Windows 7 PC.
I will follow up with this issue to see if any other issues develop and keep everyone updated and informed.
If you know of any other issues, please let me know.

Your Greatest Strength is
Your Greatest Weakness
If I mess up in any steps would it damage my computer? And how do you start command prompt, I really am not that familiar with computer stuff.
If you dont stop the crypt svc when doing the steps specified it can cause corruptions. so please make sure you go through this proccess properly
as for the command prompt, click on your windows orb -> all programs ->accessories -> Right click command prompt and run as admin
Do I have to do this or is there an other way I can be able to run halo 2 with out really having to do stuff like this
You have to do this. It isn't hard.
