Seriously, Microsoft, what are you doing? You have so much potential for a top of the line platform and you are pissing it away. Allow me to help with that, bros.
First of all, profitability. I understand that Games for Windows LIVE has been free for a while. I also understand that you take in absolutely no money from the users. A good way to combat this would be to give us the avatars and the arcade systems. Xbros pay for the avatar items, what makes you think PC users won't? Allow Indi developers to upload their own games on the arcade system, and take a slice of the pie. Not only does it help you, but the developers get to make some money as well. Hell, you can even slap an ad in there somewhere.
Next, piracy. You have recently updated Games for Windows LIVE to have Zero Day and SSA. This is a great step for convincing developers to release games under the LIVE brand. Have the arcade games linked to the account, and you are doing just fine on this.
The interface is the next obstacle we shall tackle. The current interface is pretty well, but you can only access it in LIVE enabled games. Why not extend the service to be usable in all Games for Windows titles, much like Steam and Xfire. Also, an out of game system would come in handy.
Cross-platform play, you must support it. Doing this will expand the community exponentially. Only three games support it at this moment in time, but so many more would benefit from it. I know this is a developer decision, but you should push for it as much as possible.
Microsoft, I am what you call a fanboi. I love you guys, and I want so much to see you succeed on the platform where this all started. Don't abandon Games for Windows, and especially not Games for Windows LIVE.

Ever hear of a game called Maplestory? It's a PC exclusive, and it is free to play. Nexon makes a killing off of those people, wanna know how? An avatar cash shop. Seriously. Saying that PC users won't pay because they are above it, is stupid. Nexon has made millions, possibly billions, off of those people. Their avatars aren't even that good. Let me exsplain I used my code too much as I do fresh installs of Vista and my Fallout 3 got used to much and was unable to play, I called ppl from Fallout3 and I was treated like a theif so will Microsoft spend 1,000,000 and get only 50k back? i dont think so but this is my option and everyone has one
I'd rather not pay for avatars and avatar accessories.. was a little disappointed MS stopped with the weekly free avatar stuff and went to marketplace, but sometimes the impulse will hit. AT THE VERY LEAST, let us have the avatar itself free, same as you do on Xbox.

I never said explicitly that PC gamers wouldn't want avatars.......I said we wouldn't want to pay for one.

The point wasn't that Maplestory was a good game or not, it was to show that people would be willing to pay out the *** for avatars.

Yeah paying for full version arcade games is fine with me...........i could care less about those avatars or gamerpics but damn is it that hard to make some extra gamerpics for pc???? give me the development kit and a week and i can make at least 50 free gamerpics for gfwl.....we have a client for gfwl that should have optional categories for purchasing some exclusive gamerpics at least
gfwl is more mature than the xbox anyways since they are playing around with childish avatars like the wii.......but the wii is intended for family fun.........which the xbox is trying to emulate......we dont need those avatars
what we really need are more gfwl titles
